It was a great pleasure working with dancer Nilaksi. She reached out after discovering my portrait work on TikTok, and from the start she had a clear vision for how she wanted her artistry to be portrayed. It was exciting to book in the press portrait for Nilaksi. As a trained Kathak dancer, she was looking for a series of photographs that captured the emotion, expression, and storytelling within her movement.
Before the shoot, we discussed the style, mood, and types of images that would best showcase her work as a performer. That preparation helped us create a beautifully varied collection of photographs in the studio. I always enjoy collaborating with other creatives, and this session was no exception — each image feels rich with emotion and character.
On the day, we worked with both green and black fabric backdrops, which complemented her stunning traditional dance attire perfectly. Seeing her perform in full costume was truly inspiring.
The final images were later used to promote a dance event held at the MAC in Birmingham.
